Tidepooling near Half Moon Bay
- Fitzgerald Marine Reserve, Moss Beach — Ten minutes north — a flat, protected reef that's among the best beginner pools anywhere.
- Pillar Point Reef — The reef west of the harbor exposes acres of pools on a minus tide (the Mavericks lookout).

Best time of year
The lowest daytime tides cluster around new and full moons — early mornings in late spring and summer (May–July), and mid-to-late afternoon during the late-fall and winter king-tide cycles (November–January).
