Tidepooling near Kahului, Maui
- Kuau Cove, Paia — Lava-rock pools flanking the little cove; go early before the trade winds fill in.
- Hoʻokipa Beach Park — Pools in the rock shelf at the east end on calm mornings; turtles haul out at dusk.
- Waiʻānapanapa State Park, Hana — Black-sand coast with lava pools and sea caves; non-residents need an entry reservation.
What to look for
ʻopihi (limpets), ʻaʻama crabs, juvenile reef fish, sea urchins, brittle stars under rubble, green sea turtles offshore.
Best time of year
